5 Things: Connect the Dots Edition

(thank you Ming-Zhu for introducing her to me).
  1. Cometbus #52: The Spirit of St. Louis; or How to Break Your Own Heart, A Tragedy in 24 Parts.
  2. At the risk of getting emotional and all - Bret Easton Ellis on American Psycho, Christian Bale, and His Problem with Women Directors. A total warping of Feminist Film Theory.
  3. Action Versus Image: Theater Artist Daniel Talbott talks about just doing it. Via Adam Symkowicz.
  4. How I manage the psychology these days.
  5. A Quote. Suck It, Mr. Ellis.
If something inside you is real, we will probably find it interesting, and it will probably be universal. So you must risk placing real emotion at the center of your work. Write straight into the emotional center of things. Write toward vulnerability. Don’t worry about appearing sentimental. Worry about being unavailable; worry about being absent or fraudulent. Risk being unliked. Tell the truth as you understand it. If you’re a writer, you have a moral obligation to do this. And it is a revolutionary act – truth is always subversive. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Calvin Borel & Super Saver Derby Win

Someone told me last year that you have to pick the horse not the jockey. But I say horseshit to that notion. There are exceptions to this rule and Calvin Borel is one of them.

Enjoy!
