What's Up Mr. Bear?

Andy's Dad: You want to perform, you've got to have an audience.
Andy: (pointing to the wall) They're right there!
Andy's Dad: That is not an audience. That is plaster. An audience is made of
people. People who live and breathe. - Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski,

Brain-Dead Liberal

Something I never would have accused David Mamet of being. Ever. Ever. Did you read this article in the VV? I'm not sure what to make of it except for two things:
  1. There are those who came of age in the 60's who have been harboring a really naive notion about government.
  2. Can a writer really be that removed from what they've written?

Security is a kind of death, I think, and it can come to you in a storm of royalty checks beside a kidney-shaped pool in Beverly Hills or anywhere at all that is removed from the conditions that made you an artist, if that's what you are or were or are intended to be. - Tennesee Williams

Affecting the Quality of the Day

Scary Cow

While I was waiting to see this show yesterday, I noticed that Scary Cow was having auditions in another theater in the building. Scary Cow is a community-based and community-financed film company founded by Jager McConnell. Here's a video intro for the company:

The take-aways for me could just as easily be applied to theater (substitute theater for film):
Step 1: Forget everything you know about filmmaking.
Step 2: Partner with other filmmakers like you.
Step 3: Gather what you've got.
Step 4: Get out there and film!
Everything will change.
